I know, so lame. I hate when bloggers disappear and come back with excuses. But I promise that you didn't want to read any blog posts from me over the past two weeks. We had a few a million issues with the house closing. Turns out that all of the folks who defaulted on their mortgages royally screwed it up for the rest of us. And it's not so easy to finance a house that's in crappy condition. No one believes you (even if you give them your best and most trustworthy smile) when you say that you're going to fix it up. So we moved the date of closing back two weeks, adjusted the plan a little, and all was supposed to be golden. And then it wasn't. And then it really wasn't. And we almost lost that house! So yeah, things were a little stressful and crappy around here until we received some fan-freaking-tastic news on Tuesday. And now that house will be ours at 8 am tomorrow morning!
So how about a few blurry iphone pics until we can get in there and get some better "before" shots? Please disregard all the owner's post-its. They say things like "Judy wants this" and "give everything in this closet to goodwill" and "please repaint this puke-colored wall ASAP". Wait that last one might have been me.
You've seen the front... so come on in. Here's the entryway (foyer? front hall? you pick):
Livingroom as seen from the kitchen end (please don't let the awfulness of this picture distract you from the soon-to-be yummy [and not yellow] fireplace, built-in bookcases, and hardwood floors):
The built-in cabinets in the dining room that were my turning point in falling in love with this house, and will also soon be not-yellow (sense a theme here?):
Ridiculously blurry shot of the other side of the dining room (and a little peek into the courtyard):
The kitchen (or, "why I almost ran screaming out of this house"). Catch it while you can, because it's soon to be demolished:
Heading upstairs to the front bedroom (soon to be office, later to be nursery):
Back bedroom (probably master) on the 2nd floor:
There's another bedroom on the third floor, but the contractor showed up at this point, and so I didn't get any shots of it. It will probably be the guest room.
So as you can see, we have our work cut out for us! Any advice or encouragement would be so greatly appreciated, and any suggestions to leave the downstairs the color that it is will be promptly ignored.
Right now I'm supposed to be packing for our big move, not blogging about packing (or about not packing). I do believe that packing is my least favorite activity of all time. I would rather go to the dentist, clean my bathtub, probably even take a horrible test, than pack and move.
Would you have more sympathy if I told you that yesterday I figured out that I haven't lived in the same place for more than 14 months for ELEVEN YEARS? ELEVEN. That's since 1998, internet friends. Last time I called home home for any reasonable amount of time I was taking the SATs and I had a curfew.
Just to make matters worse, we've been forced to move our closing date back to June 25th, due to a whole bunch of annoying mortgage/appraisal/contracting/blahblahblah issues. We're heading out of town for a week on the 26th, and our lease ends on the 30th. So yes, that gives us 24 hours to get all of our crap from one place to the other.
Apologies for the post full of complaints. In other news, my hairdresser quite liberally blonde-i-fied me this morning, and I'm feeling both less intelligent and more fun as a result :)
Check me (and my terrible self-portrait taking-skills) out:
