But a confession: after living here for three months and obsessively considering the decorating possibilities, the living room's still not done! And I am so tired of it not being done! And I am so tired of not showing pictures of it! So here it is in it's half-finished glory; I'm hoping you all will have some fabulous suggestions on how to make it perfect!
Speaking of unfinished, the back part of the living room is sort of this no-man's land that I have no idea what to do with. The rug there is not going to stay (it's covering up a particularly bad area of the floor we haven't refinished yet), and it's not big enough for much, but it needs something.
These pictures are waiting here for me to commit to where I want them to hang.
More blank wall space crying for some attention (and if you like those patterned pillows, you might want to check back later on this week *hint hint*):
These three frames are just a placeholder for what I hope to be the perfect accent piece or mirror above the fireplace:
And lest you forget from where we came, some YELLOW! to help you reminisce:
It worked well as camouflage for the gorgeous trim don't you think?
Paint works magic.
So there it is, a work in progress. Do you have any suggestions for me?

It looks great!! How about.... a bookcase in the no man's land??
ReplyDeletehi! i always read your blog, but this is the first time i comment!
ReplyDeletei love how you decorated your living room: the chairs, the rug, the curtains!
my only suggestion will be that maybe you can spray paint (maybe in black or white) the center table (is this the right word?) because i think that maple shade is very different from the other cold colors you're using... just my humble opinion :)
I love love love it!!
ReplyDeletePS what are your paint colours and where did you get that rug!?
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job! Can't wait to see what else you add. Those chairs are amazing!
ReplyDeleteI'm really impressed with how it's come together. The greys look so beautiful and those chairs are gorgeous! For your no man's land, what about a fancy little desk with a big bouquet of flowers on it and a mirror mixed with a collection of picture frames above, where the lady of the house can sit and genteel-y compose her letters and thank you notes? ;)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!! Everything is amazing and so well put together. It looks so chic and "grown-up" (if it's possible to describe interior design as grown-up). So lovely :)
ReplyDeleteOH I LOVE those chairs! "No man's land" would make a lovely reading nook with a chaise lounge, or a nice mini study. Very chic and light and airy, I love it.
ReplyDeletethe chairs and the rug - TO DIE! love them!
ReplyDeleteand is it complete coincidence that the legs of the coffee table mmatch the pattern in the rug? because i LOVE that touch!
How funny, we have almost the same layout in our living room! The fireplace srround, the built-ins on the sides, window placement, all the same! I'm sorry I don't have many suggestions for you, my creative brain is eaten up with manual labor this week :)
ReplyDeleteI love it. I agree with Pengy, maybe a bookshelf? I love that your living room looks traditional but modern. :)
ReplyDeleteIt looks SO fantastic, you guys did a great job!
ReplyDeleteWhat about a little reading nook in your empty space? Maybe a chaise and a standing lamp and a bookshelf? Love what you have done with it so far...it really looks fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI really like the vibe you have going on. And I really, really like your wide-planked wood floors. Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteLOVE IT, what about a sweet, feminine writing desk and chair?
ReplyDeleteI love those chairs, well I love the everything you have so far, but I especially love those chairs.
ReplyDeleteI really like the idea of a desk Kasia suggested or the reading area. I really wish I had a read nook in our place.
LOVE the chairs! I have no useful assistance, but I really think it looks great! :)
ReplyDeleteIt looks so great! It is so warm and cozy. I love the idea of a chaise lounge and maybe a bookcase and a pretty floor lamp, or the idea of a desk (an old "secretary" style desk would be so sweet there). It would just have to be a pretty nice size to fill up the space well.
ReplyDeleteWow, that looks great! I love it, I wish I could pick things that went together!
ReplyDeleteFor no-man's land, perhaps some sort of taller entryway table? Sort of Charlotte-in-Sex-and-the-City's entryway table? Or I could see some sort of china cabinet type piece there to display pretty photos or knicknacks, though I remember all the glorious storage space in your (caliente!) dining room.
Hi there - love love love the rug and chairs together and wall paint color. i want to come sit in your living room! i think its gorgeous. but if you are looking for suggestions, maybe it needs a punch of a contrasting color - like orange for over the fireplace. Would also bring in the red warm color scheme from the kitchen.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a beer pong table for the corner.

Oh my goodness, your home is gorgeous, and you have beautiful taste! We also have a long rectangular living room that feels like "no man's land"! Our home is also still a work in progress (moved in almost 4 mos ago, wedding is <2 months away, and got a new puppy <4 months ago). For right now (we plan on "finishing the room" after the wedding) we have put a sofa chair in the corner, and a beautiful mirror flanked by two candle sconses. It looks like a cozy little sitting area now. However, between the cozy sitting area, and the entertainment section (sofa, entertainment center, coffee tables) is our real "no man's land" it just seems like it should be two separate rooms, and we just found out that in some models of our subdivision, it IS two different rooms. *Sigh* right now it serves as puppy's play area, but it just feels so BLAH! I feel your pain! LOOOOOOVE your home!
ReplyDeletelovely lovely room! My only suggestion: Books for your beautiful built ins! :)
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU guys!! :)
ReplyDelete@Life Begins @ Thirty: the rug is from CSN (http://www.csnstores.com/Jill-Rosenwald-Rugs-FAL1003-JRR1048.html) and the wall color is Benjamin Moore's Silvery Moon.
@notsojenny: it is a total coincidence that the table matches the rug- that table is a big time hand-me-down and it's in pretty rough shape! (But maybe I should pretend that I planned it?!)
@anonymous CL: you must have been talking to my husband who suggested a foosball table. awesome.
Yes, that IS my go-to rug! Purchased from a different store, but the same :) I love it sooo much.
ReplyDeleteAs for your no-man's land, if you think you'll actually sit there & use it as a reading nook, I say do that - bookcases & a plush, comfortable chair that you'll want to snuggle up in! I love a good reading nook. If not, I wouldn't recommend putting things there to fill it up - let's think of something else that you will use!
