Holy crap time is flying. All of a sudden I feel really FOR REALS pregnant. Everyone I see is all, "ooooh he could be here any day now!" and it's starting to freak me out a bit. I think I'm waddling more, running out of breath when climbing the stairs more, oh, and that whole fingers and feet swelling thing that I thought I was going to avoid? Not so much. Monday morning I noticed that my shoes felt a little tight. And I seriously couldn't figure out why. Monday night when I took off my socks I GASPED at my cankles. Cankles like I have never seen, with marks where my socks were clearly cutting off the circulation. Do they make pregnancy socks? My yoga teacher said that elevating your feet above your head for as little as five minutes can erase the swelling caused by eight hours spent on your feet. Well, I tried that and I'm not buying it! One hundred points to anyone who can offer up a solution to this.
I had baby shower number three this weekend and let's just say we are now flooded (get it? showers? flooded? like what I did there?) with baby paraphernalia. Hubs has learned some new vocabulary and can now differentiate between a bumbo, a boppy, and a bjorn. We're set with two strollers, a car seat, a baby monitor, wraps and carriers, various swing/bouncing seat/jumper/cradle items, clothes galore, toys and blankets. The one item we didn't receive enough of? Of course diapers. I suppose no one wants to buy an item whose purpose is to be shat upon. We're planning on cloth diapering, so we'll be using some gift cards to get a little supply started. Seriously though, our family and friends have outdone themselves helping us celebrate.
The nursery project is in full swing, and our splurge of a rocker was delivered last weekend. I'm in love. I've already logged a bit of time rocking in it and I'm so happy with our choice. I'm searching for a cute ottoman or stool to use with it. The matching one from Land of Nod is gorgeous, but at $300 I'm not even considering it. We had a big surprise of a new crib after discovering that the one my brother passed down to us had been recalled due to it's now taboo drop side. Pottery Barn "regretfully" told us that there was no conversion kit available for our model, and offered us a brand spankin' new crib in it's place. Um, yes please? It was delivered yesterday! I'll be working on getting the nursery looking more spiffy this weekend, just in time for some maternity pictures on Sunday. I am kicking myself with my cankles for not scheduling the session a few weeks of swelling ago.
In health news, we met again with the obstetrician who is following me with a growth ultrasound every four weeks due to my gestational diabetes diagnosis. He is a laid back guy who was pretty uninterested in Baby O' and spent about three minutes checking him out before announcing that he did not look like a baby whose mother had gestational diabetes and that he was boring and perfect. Boring is exactly what you want to be at the doctor's office, and I was thrilled. He's measuring in the 74th percentile for weight and is acting like a rock star in general. I'm still eating whatever the heck I feel like eating and getting low results with my blood sugar testing. The obstetrician said, "you should have taken the three hour glucose test". BUDDY I KNOW. I have been trying to tell you this all along. Still, nobody will let me take that dumb test. I'm stuck with the extra appointments now, but at least it means we get to sneak a peek at our little dude every week. He's starting to look pretty squished in there though! If he continues on his current path, he'll be just over eight pounds at full term. I was eight exactly and my mom lived to tell about it, so I'm thinking that will be okay :)
We celebrated a quiet little Valentine's Day on Monday night. I had to work late, and came home to this setup.
Yup, hubs set up dinner (complete with tablecloth and placemats!) in front of the tv. Because I usually watch his least favorite show in the universe, The Bachelor, when I come home from work on Mondays. We kept the tv off (I mean come on now, I'm not that bad), but is this guy a keeper or what.
