Catchup: Four Months

July 23

Dear Finn,

You continue to melt my heart every day with your dimply smile.  This month you showed the first signs that you might just be a Momma's boy.  There were a couple of times when you got upset and only a hug from Momma could fix it.  I'm not going to lie, I don't hate being the only one who can comfort you sometimes.  You've started to fuss a little bit when you're tired, and only I can fix that too, but it's really nursing that you're interested in then!  You continue to be a happy little guy most of the time though.

You kicked off this month with your first ride on your Pop Pop's boat, the Tomfoolery.  It's named after your Pop Pop, and his name is where you and your dad each got your middle names.  I'd like to say you loved it, but the truth is you spent most of your maiden voyage asleep.  Maybe you were just resting up for the big milestone you conquered a few days later: rolling over onto your stomach!  Technically you can do it in both directions, but much prefer rolling from back to front.  You make your momma nervous because now you will only sleep on your belly.

The night before my thirtieth birthday, you gave me the best present a Mom can get: a big belly laugh!  Your dad was picking you up over his head and you couldn't get enough of it.  Oh Finn, seeing you happy just makes my heart explode.  I love watching you discover all the joys of life, and I know that will be only the first laugh of so many playing with your Dad.

 

 Another big new thing going on this month is that you're grabbing everything in sight.  Toys, blankets, my hair, your brother Duncan's beard, books, you name it, you're grabbing it.  And once you've grabbed it, it's headed in the direction of your slobbery mouth!  Everyone has been asking us if you're teething, what with all the drool and how much time you spend with your hands in your mouth.  We assure them that no, your pediatrician says all these things are normal and you're not yet teething.  You sure had a surprise for us right at the end of the month when a shiny white tooth appeared practically overnight!  We're blaming your more frequent nighttime wake-ups on that mean little tooth.

We took you on your first roadtrip this month, an overnight drive up to Maine to meet some more of your family and spend time where your Mom is from. You met three new Great-Grandmothers, a Great-Grandfather, and lots of Aunts, Uncles and Cousins while you were there. You also had your first swim in a lake, you rode on your Grampa's boat, and you loved playing with your Mimi in the water.  You were a great little traveler and we're excited to take you on more trips this fall.

Four Month Stats: 16 pounds

Size:  Mostly 6 month. We can squeeze you into some three month outfits but you're outgrowing them fast! 
Nicknames: Finno, Little Man, Mr. Finn, Boo Boo
Must-haves: Graco Blossom Highchair, Lamaze Morgan the Monkey and Manhattan Toy Ziggle
Milestones:
June 25: first boat ride
June 28: rolled back to front
July 1: first laugh
July 7: tried out your highchair, you love to sit in it and watch us work in the kitchen
July 14: the week of grabbing everything in sight
July 22: first trip to Maine, saying a lot of "G" sounds

 

I think this has become a theme, but this month was the most fun one yet.  We just love being your parents and having a front row seat to your life as you discover something new every day.
