1:09 pm. We left off with Finn asleep in his crib.
1:13 pm. I sit down at the computer to watch last night's episode of Bachelor Pad and work on a blog post. I'm shamelessly addicted to the Bachelor et al.
1:36 pm. Finn has other plans for his mom. He wakes up and I feed him in his room.
1:50 pm. After I feed him he gives me the gift of 15 more minutes of Bachelor Pad as he sits on my lap and follows along. But pretty soon Kasey really starts getting on his nerves (I don't blame him) and he's had enough.
2:05 pm. Diaper number four.
2:16 pm. Finn sits in his Bumbo chair while I change and fold some laundry.
2:40 pm. I think the Bumbo should be renamed and marketed as the Poop Chair (nice ring to it, no?). This is the face of a boy who is very pleased with himself.
2:42 pm. Diaper number five.
2:53 pm. Finn plays in his crib while I brush my hair and put some makeup on. Even though he's over five months old, we have his four-month appointment with his pediatrician this afternoon. It was already pushed back a month when we scheduled it, but was postponed another week due to the earthquake.
I get ready in Finn's bathroom, which hasn't seen the light of
3:04 pm. We have some time to kill so we pull a few books down off of Finn's bookshelf. His attention span for books is pretty decent these days, which I absolutely love.
3:11 pm. Finn practices his push-ups.
3:14 pm. We play with the new ball toys that I just got for him. I thought they would be a big hit, but he likes them just okay. He much prefers something he can fit inside his mouth!
3:20 pm. A little intrigued.
3:29 pm. I grab a few things for the diaper bag (an extra cloth diaper, a change of clothes) and get Finn into his stroller, inside his car seat this time. We take Duncan for a quick walk.
3:38 pm. Finn's dad is home and we pile into the car.
3:52 pm. We arrive at the doctor's office. Finn is enjoying naplet number three of the day. A car ride is almost always a guaranteed nap. We check in and sit in the tiny well-child area of the waiting room.
4:16 pm. Finn's awake and we're entertaining ourselves with a cool concave mirror.
4:26 pm. We've been called back, weighed and measured. The nurse asks us a round of rapid-fire questions as usual. Today she wants to know if Finn is in daycare, what year our house was built (for lead paint concerns), and if anyone smokes around him. No, 1800, and no. We get signed up for an early lead test just to be on the safe side even though our paint has been encapsulated. Finn starts a fight with the paper on the exam table. He's on diaper number six now.
4:42 pm. The nurse is gone and I've fed Finn. We're still waiting for Dr. P.
4:51 pm. And we're waiting.
4:52 pm. Apparently Finn is still hungry.
5:14 pm. Dr. P. has come and gone and given Finn a clean bill of health. I had some questions today about Finn sleeping on his stomach. He rolls over just as soon as we put him in his crib, so I wanted to know if it was still important that we place him on his back. Dr. P. said that we still should. I was kind of surprised by that. He said we should start rice cereal for Finn around six months. I was thinking of going straight to vegetables so that's something I want to read up on. The nurse came in with one oral vaccine and two shots for Finn. Hubs holds him on the table for the shots. He's mad.
5:15 pm. He's over it.
5:24 pm. We're back in the car and headed grocery shopping. I love the little printout they give us at each visit of Finn's stats and the milestones for the next couple of months.
5:42 pm. A treat receipt is burning a hole in my pocket and we stop at Starbucks for a $2 Java Chip Frappuccino for me and a boring old latte for hubs. (This is a decision I will regret at 1 am when I cannot sleep.)
To be continued.... up next, how many pictures can I take of my husband grocery shopping before he wants to kill me?

We have the same balls! They actually just because a hit in our house right around 9 months. And we also skipped cereal and went right to bananas. I make all of Lily's food, and my pedi didn't have a preference, so we started bananas at 6 months, followed by avocado and sweet potato. I don't think I did oatmeal or rice cereal until almost 7 months and that's because she started really wanting to eat more solids and I had to start bulking up her morning fruits and evening veggies.
ReplyDeleteI cannot get over how cute Finn is!! He just seems like such a happy baby!
ReplyDeleteI really love DitL posts! I'm also super interested in whether or not you do the vegi think instead of the rice cereal.
ReplyDeleteYou're little bumpkin is so adorable! I just can't get over those cheeks and big blue eyes!
ReplyDeleteWhile I don't have any little ones yet, it's been interesting reading about what it's like to be at home with a baby. :)
I love reading this because Louisa Claire is so close in age to Finn. At her 4 month check up the pedi wanted us to go ahead and start solids, but based on what I've read, starting at 6 months seems more recommended. We did try rice cereal a couple times a few weeks ago, but she was not interested. At this point we plan to wait until closer to six months and just go ahead with fruits and veggies.
ReplyDeleteFinn is so cute! And I love a Java Chip Frappucino!
