We kicked things off with avocado...
For now, we're sticking with the one food at a time for four days rule, so there was more avocado to follow. I think he liked it a little bit more every day.
Next up was sweet potatoes. A sweet friend of mine loaned me her Beaba Babycook
Around this point we wised up and realized that babies are best fed nekkid and that these BJÖRN bibs |
| This is a happy scream, I promise. |
Four days of sweet potatoes later and we were ready to move on to peas. They have been the big winner so far. Finn likes them so much, he pretty much wants to bathe in them.
What should we try next?
(PS. For anyone interested (and I mean, why wouldn't you be?!), the old solid food + cloth diaper equation has been less terrible than expected. I did order a diaper sprayer though, which I'll be sure to review as soon as I get my hands on it.)

You could try beetroot (losely wrapped in foil, baked in the oven for about 1.5 hrs at 190C, peel (wear gloves) and puree), but it makes for messy eating and funky diapers...
ReplyDeleteI'm ashamed to admit that I really was (am?) curious about the solid food & cloth diaper situation :)
ReplyDeleteAww, looks like Finn is enjoying his solid foods. Its fun to venture out with new foods for the "little people" in our lives. Green beans are a big hit in our house and sweet potatoes. He loves bananas and apples as well. Enjoy.
ReplyDeleteHis expressions are hilarious!
ReplyDeleteI love the looks he gives when eating. So happy! Glad he's enjoyed everything so far - what about carrots next? I ate so many pureed carrots as a baby I turned orange. :)
ReplyDeleteMr. Finn is so expressive - it's darling!
ReplyDeleteI can't get over how animated he is. Such a great looking baby :) Glad to see he loves being adventurous with the new foods. Those bibs look great, too!
ReplyDeleteToo cute! And yes, my husband got me the Beaba for xmas last this past year and I LOVE it! I still use it to make fruit purees to put in Lily's yogurt. We didn't start solids until 6 months so she's still not 100% at table foods, so the Beaba still gets a good workout. I see it being useful for a few more months, at least! And you are much braver than I - solids poop and cloth diapers were too much for me :-)
ReplyDeleteI love his expressions! Also, what kind of camera do you have? We're also starting solids and I want to record the associated hilarity :)
ReplyDeleteHe is SO CUTE!
ReplyDelete@Lauren: the clear ones were taken with our Nikon D50... the blurry ones with my iPhone :)
ReplyDeleteI know you don't need me to tell you this, but HOW FREAKING CUTE is your son. He's growing up so fast! I think the first time I saw your blog you were announcing you were pregnant. So much change!
ReplyDeletemy daughter is almost 3 months so i've still got a bit of a wait for introducing solids myself, but i've been told to try sweet potatoes, regular potatoes (bland?!), avocado, banana, carrot, pear, peas, beans, butternut squash and apricot or peach. i also gather you should apparently stick to "savory" foods first, then sweet?
ReplyDelete-m.
Did you ever give Finn rice cereal? My little man is also EBF and will be 6 months in 2 weeks. :)
ReplyDelete@m: I heard the savory foods first thing too, but then I heard that breastmilk is sweet, so babies prefer sweet already!
ReplyDelete@Linda: we haven't done rice cereal yet (all the research I found says there's no reason you have to start with it), but I'm sure we will try it eventually.
Oh my gosh, the faces! He looks so excited to be trying new things....haha! Absolutely adorable.
